Douglas Shuler is, quite simply, an icon among the City of Heroes art community, an insanely talented artist, and a total professional. He also happens to be a really nice guy. I have loved his art from the first day I discovered CoH character art, and I've pined for my very own piece for nearly as long. And finally, here it is, and it's amazing, and I love it.
Doug's work is not only beautiful, but always manages to 'get' the personality of the subject, often with just a touch of tongue-in-cheek humor. Here he's put the Shrike in her element--surrounded by aircraft, getting ready to take off, but pausing in just the right pose for her audience. He evokes my favorite classic pinups and vintage nose art, but still makes this a heroic character piece. The Shrike looks gorgeous here, and I love her expression: "Look how AWESOME I am." Powered by the sun and in love with the sky--it's all there behind her. Yet he managed to slip in a little of her inherent vanity and love of celebrity, too.
Thank you, Doug, for this stunning work that so perfectly embodies the Shrike.
Amazing image, truely there, not just blowing smoke. For some reason her facial features remind me somewhat of Holly Valance (not necessarily a bad thing mind), still, awesome!
A truly stunning piece that pretty embodies the spirit of the Shrike perfectly. I think that my favourite feature of this work is the sun shining from behind the Shrike and reflection effects. As Kelly says, it represents both the Shrike's sun-based powers and her love of flight.

Sterling work by Doug. A masterpiece!
